My friend was most edified by the sight of a man and his dog running
for dear life away from a pony stallion.
It's sad when the omnivore and carnivore are chased by the herbivore.

An herbivore with great gouges for teeth, a wicked strong neck and
hooves on the ends of legs that exceed a man's height and reach. I
grew up with ponies and have been bitten, kicked, trod upon, trampled
and unhorsed more times than I can recall. Confronted with a
territorial, hostile and untrained 12-hand pony stallion, absent a
nice piece of rope, I'd run too.
I rode hunter/jumpers as a teenager and it's true, I'd rather ride an
off track Thoroughbred than deal with a pony. But they're not that
difficult to deal with, even the wild ponies on Assateague. All my
friend did when the pony turned his attention to her was peel off her
shirt and wave it over her head. The little monster decided to try
someone else.
Note to self: carry extra shirt.
