Also, wouldn't it be better to have the *actor* who provided the
voice for Kangaroo Jack to do the commentary? Granted, two hours of
apologies may be a little much, but ...

There is no "actor" behind Kangaroo Jack. The horrible truth is that the
producers took a *real* live kangaroo and taught it to "speak" (i.e. make
sounds closely resembling human speech) through a series of painful
electro-shocks. On the bright side, the same technique was used to get
Jerry O'Connell to say *his* lines.
Why does the kangaroo in the movie look so patently false, then? Two words:
Botox injections.
